    Odoo ERP questions, answered directly

20 answers on cost, timelines, failing projects, migration, and regional compliance — the questions we get asked before every engagement.

    Cost and budgeting

How much does an Odoo implementation cost?

Starter rollouts of 5–15 users covering core finance and operations begin around $15,000. Mid-market projects with several departments, data migration, and integrations typically run $45,000–$150,000. Multi-entity enterprise deployments start around $200,000. Every engagement begins with a fixed-fee discovery so the number is based on your processes rather than a guess. Full cost breakdown.

What drives Odoo project cost the most?

Process complexity and data quality, not user count. The expensive work is mapping non-standard workflows, cleaning and reconciling legacy master data, building integrations, and testing. Licence fees are usually the smallest line in a multi-year total cost of ownership. Pricing.

Is Odoo cheaper than NetSuite, SAP, or Dynamics 365?

On licensing, almost always — Odoo's open-source core removes per-module upsells and its per-user pricing is materially lower. The gap narrows on implementation, where the deciding factor is how much of your process fits standard functionality. Compare the three head to head before committing. ERP comparisons.

Do you work fixed-fee or time and materials?

Discovery is always fixed-fee, and rescue audits are fixed-fee. Delivery is then priced against the scope that discovery produced, with milestone-based invoicing so you are never approving open-ended spend.

    Implementation and timelines

How long does an Odoo implementation take?

A focused rollout covering sales, inventory, and accounting is typically 6–12 weeks. Adding manufacturing, multi-warehouse, or multi-entity consolidation pushes it to 3–6 months. Enterprise programmes with heavy integration run longer. Phasing by module gets value into production sooner than a single big-bang date.

Which Odoo edition and hosting should we choose?

If you need custom Python modules, use Odoo.sh or self-hosting — Odoo Online does not allow them. If your requirements are met by configuration and Studio, Odoo Online is the lowest-maintenance option. Enterprise is required for full accounting, Studio, and advanced manufacturing and quality apps. Glossary: hosting options.

How much customization is too much?

The practical rule: if a requirement can be met by configuration, Studio, or an existing OCA module, do not write code for it. Custom code is not the problem — undocumented custom code that has to be refactored at every version upgrade is. Every deviation from standard should have a named business reason.

Do you provide training and post-go-live support?

Yes. Role-based training during user acceptance testing, documented standard operating procedures for the processes we configure, and a hypercare period after cutover before moving to ongoing support.

    Failing and stalled projects

Can a failing Odoo implementation be rescued?

In most cases yes. Rescue starts with a fixed-fee audit of the database, custom code, configuration, and project governance, producing a written findings report. We then stabilise the environment and deliver a re-costed, milestone-based recovery plan. Full rebuilds are the exception, not the default recommendation. Project rescue.

What are the early warning signs of a failing rollout?

Go-live dates slipping without a re-baselined plan, user acceptance testing compressed or skipped, growing spreadsheet workarounds beside the system, custom code with no documentation, and finance refusing to close the period in Odoo. Two or more together means the project needs intervention, not more deadline pressure. The five warning signs.

Will you work on a database another partner built?

Yes — that is most of our rescue work. The audit covers whatever is in place: their modules, their configuration, their data. We report what is salvageable and what is not, without needing the original partner's cooperation.

    Migration from another system

Can we migrate from QuickBooks, Sage, NetSuite, SAP Business One, or Tally?

Yes, all five. The deliverables that matter are a mapped chart of accounts, a reconciled opening trial balance, open receivables and payables matched line by line, and validated inventory valuation — not just exported CSV files. Migration services.

How much historical data should we bring across?

Open items and balances always. Full transactional history is usually two to three years, because older detail is cheaper to keep queryable in an archive of the legacy system than to migrate, validate, and reconcile inside Odoo.

How do you upgrade an existing Odoo database to Odoo 18?

Schema migration on a staging branch first, then refactoring custom modules against the changed APIs, then a full regression pass on the processes that touch finance and stock. Production cutover only happens after staging passes cleanly. Odoo 18 upgrade guide.

    Compliance by region

Is Odoo compliant with UK Making Tax Digital?

Yes, with the UK localization and MTD-compatible VAT submission configured. This must be set up and tested before the first VAT return falls due, not after go-live. Odoo for UK businesses.

Does Odoo handle UAE VAT and FTA e-invoicing?

Yes. UAE deployments need the FTA-aligned tax configuration, TRN handling on partners and invoices, and invoice formats matching the applicable e-invoicing phase. Odoo for UAE businesses.

How does Odoo handle US sales tax and ASC 606?

Multi-state nexus is normally handled by connecting a tax engine such as Avalara AvaTax rather than maintaining static rules. ASC 606 revenue recognition is configured with deferred revenue accounts and milestone or subscription invoicing. Odoo for US businesses.

    Working with Core Trust

Is Core Trust an official Odoo partner?

No. Core Trust is an independent Odoo specialist. That means no partner-tier markup and no obligation to push Enterprise licences where Community plus OCA modules would serve you better — you work directly with the senior engineers doing the delivery. About Core Trust.

    Which regions do you serve?

The United Arab Emirates, the United Kingdom, and the United States. Delivery is remote with working hours matched to your time zone.

    How do we start?

Send your current system, rough user count, and the processes that hurt most. We come back with whether a discovery is warranted, what it would cover, and its fixed fee — before any commitment to a delivery project. Contact us.
